HONEST TAKE
PROS & CONS
We believe in giving you the full picture. Kirkland is an exceptional place to live, but no city is perfect. Here's an honest look at the advantages and trade-offs of calling Kirkland home.
THE PROS
Prime Location
Close proximity to Bellevue, Redmond, and Seattle — major job centers and cultural hubs are all within a short drive or transit ride.
Highly-Rated Schools
The Lake Washington School District consistently ranks among the top in Washington state, with nationally recognized STEM programs.
Charming Downtown
A quaint, walkable downtown with independent shops, restaurants, and galleries — all steps from the waterfront.
Waterfront Living
Miles of Lake Washington shoreline with public beaches, parks, piers, and stunning sunset views.
Abundance of Parks
Over 40 parks, two state parks, and the Cross Kirkland Corridor trail provide endless outdoor recreation.
Low Crime
Kirkland is one of the safest cities on the Eastside, with crime rates well below national averages.
Well-Maintained City
The city takes pride in infrastructure, public spaces, and community programs. Streets are clean, parks are maintained, and city services are responsive.
Plenty to Do
From waterfront dining and live performances to farmers markets and festival weekends, there's always something happening.
THE CONS
Cost of Living
Property prices, property taxes, and grocery costs are higher than national and even state averages. Kirkland is a premium community and costs reflect that.
Traffic & Development
New construction and residential development have increased without proportional infrastructure improvements. Rush hour traffic on I-405 and local arterials can be frustrating.
Limited Nightlife
Most restaurants and bars close around 9 PM. If you're looking for a late-night scene, Seattle is a better bet — though it's only 20 minutes away.
